Daily Blog: Wednesday March 1st
I spent this morning revising the speech within the first level of the game. It's important the speech gives some drive to the game and gives the player the ability to learn about their character, the world and the story itself. This is the third iteration of the speech for room one and it involves complete improvements from re writing of the actual speech to new programming to give bigger conversations that the player can change so they can ask what they want to ask. This is not fully implemented yet.
In the evening I did some grad show work and had a meeting separately with both my animators, with max I discussed the latest background for the room of Wrath mechanic, it's an idea from way back when I was basing my game around the seven sins, although I dropped the overall theme the mechanic I decided to keep, it involves the player being taken to a room to hit a dummy if he is violent towards the devil. The devil then informs the player 'if this is the experience you desired, play on and hit that target as much as you like'. It's not a punishment or a restriction just hopefully a mental push to allow players to challenge their own ideas about why this game is not based around violence.
With Deborah my lead animator I discussed work on the trailer. I won't mention too much here as its not relevant to today, we just briefly talked over content. The bulk of the animations done for it and the music is done but not cut up.
I drew up a list of programming problems I didn't know how to fix including the new devil fly animation from yesterday and then met up with dan and together we went through them. I rounded off the day by at the last minute fixing the devil animation. I'm very pleased with room 1 now, just a bit more tinkering to go for perfection and integrate the new speech mechanic.
Another 7am to 9pm day!
Sam
