When I considered where I had seen good puppet designs before I remembered the fantastic opening sequence from Hellboy 2: the golden army. I managed to get my crafty little hands on a copy of the concept art book and came across some really useful puppet design bits and pieces.
Mike Mignola was always going to be an inspiration for this project not just for his mixture of folklorian tales intersperced with the mudane, not just for his use of colour against black but also for his use of simple shapes. With very few lines he conveys so much.
